Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration (PESA) / Testicular Sperm Extraction (TESE) Treatment in Delhi

Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration (PESA)
A PESA surgical sperm retrieval procedure is performed when there is a mechanical blockage of the vas deferens or males who have undergone a vasectomy or in cases when the sperm produced by the testes remains in the epididymis and are not released. The trapped sperms are retrieved surgically, and this procedure is termed as PESA. A fine needle is inserted into the male scrotum through the skin that helps remove sperm from the male epididymis.
Testicular Sperm Extraction (TESE)
This procedure is performed when the PESA is unsuccessful and in males with signs of testicular failure. The method includes making a small cut at the scrotum and testis, and then testicular tissue biopsy is performed to extract the sperm. If one is undergoing TESE for non-obstructive azoospermia, about 30-50% of sperms are successfully extracted.
Both techniques are performed under anaesthetic and recovery takes place about 1-2 days.

The sperm retrieved with the PESA or TESA process is usually very low compared to the amount present in an ejaculate. These sperm are used in combination with a specific type of IVF called ICSI (Intracytoplasmic sperm injection) technique to achieve a successful pregnancy.
